1934A $5 S.C “N-A CHANGEOVER PAIR”

$3,780.00

P.M.G #64/65EPQ

Description

Changeover Pair Fr. 2307/Fr. 2307 Late Finished Face Plate 307 $5 1934A North Africa Silver Certificates. PMG Gem Uncirculated 65 EPQ; Choice Uncirculated 64 EPQ.

The first note in this lovely changeover pair is the usual $5 North Africa note, while the second example features an unusual $5 North Africa which has late finish face plate 307. The last edition of the Schwartz-Lindquist reference lists only one $5 North Africa changeover pair, and this is it. Work on face plate 307 was started on April 6, 1936. Then the plate was stored in the plate vault until its “discovery” in 1942. The plate was finished on July 3, 1942, and was then put to use from July 9, 1942 to June 3, 1943. This means that face plate 307 has a macro size plate number, but plate number 307 comes from the micro size plate number range. This was the result of BEP economy measures during World War II. This interesting lot should command close attention from the many serious small size collectors. (Total: 2 notes)

This set last sold in January 2000 for $4560.00
