FIRST EIGHT-DIGIT SOLID SERIAL ON AN F.R.N
This rare FR‑846 1914 $5 Federal Reserve Note features the solid serial number A33333333A.
It is the earliest known eight‑digit solid serial number printed on a Federal Reserve Note. It is also the only example in the A–A Block for the entire 1914 Series. This makes it one of the most important solid‑serial notes ever found.
The 1914 Series was the first major issue of Federal Reserve Notes after the Federal Reserve Act of 1913. Boston’s $5 notes were among the earliest released. Across all districts and denominations, only five eight‑digit solid serial numbers are known. Four are $5 notes. One is a $20 note. None exist for Red Seal FRNs. This places A33333333A in an extremely small group of elite serial‑number rarities.
This note is graded PMG 40EPQ. The paper is bright and original. It shows one center fold and light handling. The surfaces remain clean and attractive in the holder. The A–A block and solid‑3 serial number create a bold and eye‑catching presentation.
