🟦 FR‑1510 • 1953A $2 L.T• DOUBLE QUAD A55553333A
EXTREMELY RARE • QUAD‑5 / QUAD‑3 PATTERN • EXTRA FINE
This 1953A Series $2 Legal Tender carries one of the toughest fancy serial formats you’ll ever see on a red seal: A55553333A — a DOUBLE QUAD. Four 5’s followed immediately by four 3’s. Early‑series Legal Tenders almost never surface with extreme fancy structures, and double quads are practically unheard of on 1953A notes. These were printed in small runs, circulated heavily, and almost none survived with premium eye appeal.
This example grades Extra Fine, showing strong color, crisp detail, and the kind of sharp presentation that reads like an AU at first glance. The note is well‑centered with clean margins and excellent ink strength. A small rust spot on the back — likely from an old paper clip — is the only notable flaw, and it does little to detract from the overall look. The face of the note has that unmistakable uncirculated‑style pop that collectors love.
The serial number is the star of the show. Quad 5’s rolling into quad 3’s is a pattern that simply does not appear in the wild. Fancy‑serial specialists know how rare it is to find any quad on a 1953A, let alone a double quad with perfect symmetry and rhythm. This is the kind of serial that instantly elevates a collection — bold, dramatic, and visually striking.
The 1953A red seal series remains a collector favorite thanks to its classic design and limited surviving population. Pairing that with a double quad serial pushes this note into a category that is almost never offered publicly. If you’re chasing elite fancy numbers on early Legal Tenders, this one checks every box.
