Description
FR‑2175‑B — 1996 Series One Hundred Dollar Federal Reserve Note from the New York District.
A dramatic inverted overprint on the reverse, applied a full 180 degrees onto the back of this first‑generation $100. This is far scarcer than a standard “overprint on back” error — true inverted reverses on 1996 $100s are virtually unheard of.
Certified PCGS 64PPQ Choice Uncirculated, the note displays premium paper quality, excellent centering, and bold embossing. A portion of the top selvedge remains, confirming its originality straight from the top of the sheet.
Among modern hundreds, the rarity is extreme: across the 2009–2021 Series, zero inverted‑overprint examples have surfaced — not even simple back overprints. This may well represent the last era in which such dramatic high‑denomination errors escaped the BEP.
A standout, high‑impact error note with exceptional eye appeal and true long‑term scarcity. We recently sold a P.M.G. #58EPQ example, offered here on the website, for $1,900.00.
