This 1928A $5 Legal Tender note carries an extremely early serial number: D00000014A, making it Serial #14 from the second sheet printed. Early D‑A block notes were used heavily in circulation, so very few survive with originality or strong paper quality. Because of this, low serial red seals from the 1928A series are difficult to find, especially in collectible grades. This example stands out immediately due to its early placement in the print run and its natural, unaltered appearance.
Why Low Serial Red Seals Are Hard to Find
Low serial Red Seal Legal Tender notes are the second rarest category of low serial numbers across small‑size currency. Only Federal Reserve Notes and Silver Certificates are harder to locate in early serial ranges. Over more than 30 years of buying and selling fancy serial numbers, we have seen only about a dozen low‑serial 1928A Red Seals. This note has a long history with us as well. We sold it in the late 1990s, reacquired it around 2010 from Unlimited Currency, and are now offering it once again. Its survival in this condition is impressive, especially considering how early it sits in the print run.
