Description
LATE FINSHED PLATE N-A #307 STAR P.M.G #25
This 1934A Five-Dollar Silver Certificate PMG 25 is an extremely scarce star note from the late‑finished Plate 307 variety. Carrying serial number *10991965A, this note represents one of the rarest production runs of the 1934A series. PMG graded it 25 Very Fine Plus, and the holder is comment‑free, confirming clean originality and solid paper quality for the grade.
Plate 307 is a fascinating and highly desirable printing anomaly. It began life in 1936 as a Series 1934 master plate. Then, in January 1938, it was altered into a Series 1934A master plate. Instead of being retired, the BEP finished it late in 1942 as a production plate. During this process, the plate received the newer macro‑size plate serial numbers. As a result, all notes printed from Plate 307 show these larger numerals.
This plate was used for only seven press runs between July 1942 and June 1943. Because of this limited use, fewer than 100,000-star notes were printed from Plate 307. According to the PMG Population Report, this 1934A Five-Dollar Silver Certificate PMG 25 is one of just four at this grade level. Even more impressive, there are only eleven total examples known in all grades. The finest known is a PMG 65EPQ, which sold for just over $5,000 in 2024 at public auction.
All Plate 307 notes feature macro back plate numbers; yellow Treasury seal used for the North Africa emergency issue. Some plates produced both blue‑seal and yellow‑seal overprints, but the North Africa notes always carry the yellow seal.
This 1934A Five-Dollar Silver Certificate PMG 25 is a premium rarity with exceptional historical depth and extremely low population. A true standout for advanced collectors.
