Description

1902 Series $10 • The National Park Bank of New York

Charter #891 • Plain Back • Serial 848581 CGA 25 Very Fine+

This 1902 Series $10 Plain Back comes from the historically significant National Park Bank of New York, one of the most powerful commercial banks in the United States during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Founded in 1856, the bank grew into a financial giant—at one point conducting more commercial business than any other bank in the country.

Its iconic Beaux‑Arts headquarters, dramatically expanded between 1903–1905 by architect Donn Barber, featured towering coffered vaults, a stained‑glass dome rising 68 feet above the marble floor, and murals by artist Albert Herter. Though the building was demolished in 1961, its legacy remains deeply tied to New York’s financial history. The bank later acquired Wells Fargo in 1911 and ultimately consolidated with Chase National Bank in 1929.

For this National Park Bank title, 747 large‑size notes are recorded—making it a collectible but accessible New York national with a visually appealing title. This example is graded CGA 25 Very Fine+, showing:

  • Good color and strong overall presentation
  • Moderate, honest circulation
  • No rips, tears, or distracting issues
  • An early bank stamp on the reverse, adding period character

A solid mid‑grade example from a major New York City institution, ideal for collectors who appreciate classic long‑title nationals with strong historical presence.
