Description
This 1981 Series Five Dollar Federal Reserve note from the Cleveland District features the unusual “Serial 00000000.” While the first and second printings appear normal, the green ink fades out, leaving the Treasury seal and serial numbers faint or nearly absent. A single zero sits on both sides of the note, but under close magnification or to a trained eye, traces of green ink reveal the actual serial number D39740040A. It’s a striking piece with just one visible digit, graded Choice Uncirculated with original paper quality. Slightly off-center to be called a gem, yet with excellent paper quality, embossing, and a sharp look.
